Many people in our community got their first glimpse into motorsports with their parents and an old car.  Some had a muscle car growing up and others still keep a "fun" car in their garage to play with when they're not at the track.  July 11th is a chance to show your pride for these old vehicles on Collector Car Appreciation Day.

The SEMA Action Network has created a day to celebrate these special cars for those who carve out precious resources and time to express their individuality through these machines: old or new; stock or modified; domestic or foreign. By taking over the streets to showcase the hobby’s diversity in a unified way, many more will be inspired to share our four-wheeled passion.

Believe it or not, there are still some organizations out there that don't offer online registration for their events.  As a participant, we can't tell you how annoying this is.  It's a considerable barrier-to-entry for a lot of people.  And rule number one in increasing attendance at your events is to make it as easy as possible for people to get registered.

So for the non-believers out there still using paper forms, we've put together a list of the top 8 reasons why participants love online registration.

Motorsport Events- the Ideal Gift 

It's a fact that quite a few men (and frankly a lot of women too) LOVE motorsports.  Well we happen to be an authority on motorsport events and currently have 1,562 events listed on our calendar.  And with our recently updated calendar search functionality, I know we can find the one that best suits your Dad.  First, determine what kind of Dad you have.  Then use our suggestions below to find him the perfect event. 

In case you didn't know, we've got some very clever organizers out there.  One of them is Jeremy Plance- Software Developer by day and Webmaster/ Communications Director for Team Continental by night.  He recently used our API to build a pit map interface which allows attendees to reserve paddock space.  He is graciously allowing us to share his project with you.

A good old fashioned approach to influencing behavior- buy it!

I’m pretty sure any one of us could fill our events in a heartbeat if we gave away stacks of cash. But if you had stacks of cash, you probably wouldn't be reading a blog about how to bribe people into coming to your events.

So we need to be more creative. What you give away needs to be interesting or valuable to the recipient, not necessarily of high value to you. Let me give you an example of a promotion a club racing organization ran to attract both new people and inactive members to come out to their events. 

A few weeks ago we posted a blog asking "do you have what it takes to be a motorsport event organizer?"  We shared 7 key skills motorsport event organizers said were must-haves.  Quick recap-

One our organizers, Norm Nelson whom we featured in a Pole Position blog not too long ago, wrote in with another important skill and we just had to pass it along.

On Tuesday we blogged about how the science of psychology can help convert more customers (participants/ attendees).  Specifically, we mentioned how rigorously-tested research proves just how powerful the simple act of including a link to your registration page can be in your event promotion messages.

Even though I've mentioned this in several blogs, (and it seems like common sense to me), you would be SHOCKED by how many people don't include the link to registration when promoting their events!

Seriously! 

I see it in social media posts, emails, forums, you name it.  And every time, I just shake my head and think- "but you haven't provided the most CRITICAL piece of information!!!"

Well now I know I'm not the crazy one.
