Escape with Porsche Club of America

Date

August 29, 2013 by Stacy King

There are events… and there are EVENTS.

One such EVENT is the 2013 PCA Escape to LA gathering being held this October. Not just any social gathering, this event plays like many national car club conventions. Four days of socializing and sight seeing among some of Southern California’s most scenic attractions. Hosted jointly by PCA Grand Prix and San Gabriel Valley regions, they expect between 400 and 600 people in attendance.

An event that size takes lots of effort, commitment, and organization. So to that end it was our pleasure to showcase some of our favorite features built in to MotorsportReg.com and assist in setting up the event registration.

Pole Position- SCCA Kansas City Region's Bill Correll

Date

August 26, 2013 by Jennifer Ghidinelli

Autocross

Bill Correll from the SCCA Kansas City Region SOLO program has some of the most creative registration forms we’ve seen here at MotorsportReg. He takes full advantage of all the tools and features we offer and uses them in ways that we hadn’t even thought of.

He got his start in autocross in the late 60’s and mid 70’s and then took some time off to go back to college along with working a full time job with Ford Motor Company.  In 1999 he bought a new Mustang Cobra and in 2000 attended the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving 4 day Grand Prix Road Race School. Later that year he got back into autocross and retired from Ford in 2005. He was the region's Solo Chair from 2007 through 2009 and a member of the region’s Solo Advisory Committee, as chair, from 2007 through 2008. He was also the Chief of Registration for solo from 2008 through 2011 and Chief of Waivers in 2008. He has since stepped down as the Chief of Registration and lets someone else handle the actual onsite parts of registration but keeps the MSR event set up piece of the process.  We recently chatted with him about his club and those incredible registration forms he creates.

MSR: SCCA Kansas City Region runs SOLO events, rally cross and a few road rallies and races.  What are the highlights of your season?

Bill: For the solo group the highlight of the season is our "Halloweenie" autocross event. The club furnishes hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks. The entrants and their guests bring chips, desert, etc. Many of the people wear costumes and decorate their cars. We give out prizes for people and car costumes and also collect money for a local charity.  After the event, we donate the leftover food and drinks to a church or community food pantry or kitchen.

Chasing Down Those Failed Credit Cards

money

Has this ever happened to you?

You're one of those savvy organizers who uses our deferred payment processing feature because:

  1. It saves you time from having to process refunds if an attendee cancels,
  2. It encourages attendees to register earlier and more often because there's no penalty for canceling, and
  3. It gives you more visibility into who's attending your event because of #2 above.

But when you sit down to finally process payments, a handful of credit cards always fail for one reason or another.  And now all that time you saved from not having to handle refunds is spent chasing down payments from attendees with failed credit cards.

ofest 2013

Beginning today, the BMW Car Club of America is holding their annual Oktoberfest at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. This 5-day extravaganza includes driving events such as car control clinics, driving schools, and autocrosses, as well as social events including BBQ's, wine tasting and a casino night.

I've instructed with the Golden Gate Chapter in the past and jumped at the chance to instruct during the HPDE event at Oktoberfest. Many of our customers are BMW CCA regions and this will be a great opportunity for me to meet our newer customers and reconnect with our older ones.  And let's face it, it's hard to pass up the chance to drive Laguna Seca.
