Feature Updates - March 2016

Date

March 16, 2016 by Brian Ghidinelli

I promised last year to update you more regularly on the changes we're making to MotorsportReg. We typically deploy updates 3-6 times per week and as we've grown the team over the past year, the rate of those changes has increased so let's catch up!

While we focus on the frequently requested and bigger changes, there are a slew of updates in the Quick Hits section. Make sure to skim for gold nuggets!

Feature Updates - August 2015

Date

August 26, 2015 by Brian Ghidinelli

This week I'm near Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin - not to attend an event at Road America (drats!) - but rather for our annual team meetup in Lake Geneva. As a fully remote team we find a late summer week to bring the team together, review our progress and refine our plan for the future. It's a chance to replace phone calls and emoji with face-to-face conversations and meals that leaves us energized to keep pushing forward.

Last month I listed a number of improvements for my programmer friends but I'm back with a larger-than-normal list of improvements and fixes to MotorsportReg, including a sneak peek at a major new feature.

Create a Pit Map Using Our API

Date

May 30, 2014 by Jennifer Ghidinelli

In case you didn't know, we've got some very clever organizers out there.  One of them is Jeremy Plance- Software Developer by day and Webmaster/ Communications Director for Team Continental by night.  He recently used our API to build a pit map interface which allows attendees to reserve paddock space.  He is graciously allowing us to share his project with you.

Mobile application by Torqued Racing

Date

June 11, 2013 by admin

One of our customers, Torqued Racing Solutions, has been quickly putting together a mobile application to scratch an itch. In owner Shawn Fultz's words:

We were looking for a way to access our MotorsportReg.com event registration information on the go and at the track. We couldn't find anything on the market so we built it!

The application is in beta right now and supports the following features:

  • View registrations for any event

  • View driver and vehicle information

  • View/enter notes for driver or other meetings

  • Check in drivers (Note: at the moment, this is local to the app and not a feature of MSR, but is something we're working on)

  • Download data from MotorsportReg.com so that it will work offline

Check out a quick video:

This is not a Pukka Software or MotorsportReg.com product so we can't take any official credit nor provide support for it. However, we're working with Shawn so that he has the necessary tools from us to build something great using our REST API. We're really excited about his work!

Not even a mouse...

Date

June 11, 2013 by Brian Ghidinelli

It's been quiet on the public front here although we've been working like elves behind-the-scenes to make sure Santa has something in his bag for Christmas. Lots of plumbing work has been performed in preparation for allowing one account to register someone else (an oft-requested feature) and we're staggering our releases to push some of that groundwork early. The big anchor of this upcoming release is customizable member types! No longer will you be restricted to Driver and Instructor; organizations using the premium plan will be able to have up to 32 member types that can track anything from interests to credentials. This feature will greatly enhance our membership management capabilities as well as permit greater tailoring of registration forms for the participants.

[gallery link="file" columns="4"]

Beneath the sheets we've done a major upgrade to the way that we collect, process and store club, event and survey questions. They will all share the same capabilities which means club and event questions will get new likert scales and essay box answer types, regular-expression pattern matching for answers and it has support to limit the visibility of any one of these types to the custom membership types described above.

Restrict a future credit to a specific event type, limiting when it can be redeemedAlso coming is the capability to restrict a future credit to one event type. If your organization runs different kinds of events in a single account with MSR, you can now give a participant a credit that will only be good for that same kind of event in the future.

Finally, we added the ability to get a list of postal codes (American and Canadian) within a radius of a specified location via our REST API. You can use this to filter event listings or other geocoded data by distance and we'll be adding more geospatial support to the API in time.

Expect to see the above features live in the next week or so. We'll be updating our documentation accordingly.

RSS, Atom and iCal support added to REST API

Date

October 11, 2013 by Brian Ghidinelli

To ease integration with a variety of third-party software packages, we've introduced new formats for certain resources of our REST API. Calendar and event listings can now be returned in RSS, Atom and iCalendar formats. This will facilitate easy consumption by software such as vBulletin for automatic content population eliminating human intervention to post event listings on your own website. Thanks to Steven Schlossman from BMW CCA National Capital chapter for the kick in the butt to get this done.

Awhile back we also added the ability to get a list of the entries for an event or for a segment of an event. If you want to list your entries on your own site or grab them for some kind of automated processing, you will want to check out the two resources:

/rest/events/{event_id}/assignments
/rest/events/{event_id}/segments/{segment_id}/assignments

Thanks to Mike Malsed at Formula RallyX who asked us for this one.
